What kind of video should I create for my business?

Dear Vid•For•Web:  What kind of video should I create for my business?
Sincerely, Maurice the Marketer

Dear Maurice,
When we talk to people about what we do, this question comes up a lot.  It’s a straight-forward question that sometimes has a complicated answer.  In this post, we give brevity a shot – just for you!

The best we can do here, without having access to your company’s strategic plan, is to give you some guidelines.

If you’re new to video, we’d recommend creating one per quarter.  If you are already invested and ready to rock with video, then we’d recommend between 12 and 24 videos per year.

Without jumping into a lot of marketing jargon, we’ve identified some effective types of video that align with the sales funnel concept: Awareness Building, Evaluation, and Purchase (and post-purchase).

For those of you in the four videos a year category we recommend you create half of your video content from the Awareness Building and the other half from Evaluation.

Awareness Building Evaluation
How to videos
Repurposed webinars
CEO interviews
Company culture videos
Product demos
Client testimonial
Video case study

For those of you in the 12-24 video per year category we recommend you create 1/4 of your video content from Awareness Building, 1/2 from Evaluation and 1/4 from Purchase.

But the short answer to that question is:  it depends on what your goals are.  We highly recommend that you create a video marketing strategy before you begin creating video for your business.

And by the way, good for you for taking on video!  We hope we’ve encouraged you on your path to becoming a marketing star with the guidelines above.
